GHCL Limited operates captive limestone mines across the Gir-Somnath and Junagadh districts of Gujarat, employing semi-mechanised mining methods to produce high-quality chemical-grade limestone. The mines have a combined annual production capacity of approximately 6.7 lakh tonnes, ensuring a reliable supply of the key raw material for the Company’s soda ash manufacturing operations.

GHCL currently operates eight limestone mines, with four mines located in the Gir-Somnath district and four mines located in the Junagadh district. The mining operations are carried out with a strong focus on safety, environmental stewardship, resource conservation, and community development.

Sustainability remains integral to GHCL’s mining practices. Through progressive mine reclamation and scientific mine closure planning, mined-out areas are systematically backfilled and converted into productive land uses such as agriculture, water storage reservoirs, and green belts. To date, a total of 228.41 hectares has been reclaimed (including working and surrendered lease areas), with substantial areas developed for agriculture, water conservation, and afforestation initiatives. As part of its commitment to ecological restoration, GHCL has planted more than 32,500 trees across its mining lease areas.

GHCL’s limestone mines have consistently received recognition for excellence in mining, environmental management, safety, and sustainable development. Key achievements include:

• 5-Star Rating of Mines Award- Received from the Ministry of Mines, Government of India for Dhamanva–Gabha Limestone Mine (FY 2021–22).
• 5-Star Rating of Mines Award- Received from the Ministry of Mines, Government of India for Bhimdeol Limestone Mine (FY 2022–23).
• 32nd Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation Week Awards (2024–25)- Won 10 awards from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Gandhinagar Region, including 1st Prize in the A2 Category for Dhamanva–Gabha Limestone Mine.
• 33rd Mines Environment & Mineral Conservation Week Awards (2025–26)- Won 9 awards from the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), Gandhinagar Region, including 1st Prize in the A2 Category for Bhimdeol Limestone Mine.
• Mines Safety Week Awards 2024- Won multiple awards from the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Ahmedabad Region, across categories including Mining Machinery Management, Health & Safety, Training, Innovation, and Mine Operations.
